Shadow of the Erdtree Story

The narrative of Shadow of the Erdtree centers on Miquella, the eternally youthful son of Marika and brother to Malenia, the Goddess of Rot. Though a key figure in the lore, Miquella never made a proper appearance in the base game, only featuring in an optional section and item descriptions.
Miquella, cursed to remain in a child's body, sought to cure his and Malenia's curses under the Golden Order. Failing, he abandoned the Order, created the Haligtree to rival the Erdtree, and cocooned himself within it. However, he was kidnapped by his half-brother, Mohg, Lord of Blood, who aimed to awaken and ascend Miquella to godhood. The Tarnished can defeat Mohg before this happens, leaving Miquella in a cocoon coma.
In Shadow of the Erdtree, Miquella has ventured to the Land of Shadow for unknown reasons, and players must trace his steps. The trailer hints at Miquella awaiting his "promised Lord" and following the path of his mother Marika, who once visited this land, purged in an unsung battle and set ablaze by a character named Messmer.
The latest story trailer suggests Miquella's journey involves betrayal and a metamorphosis, abandoning his lineage and the Golden Order. The "tyranny of Messmer" hints at a new boss, with Miquella's journey possibly leading to a transformation away from his cursed existence.
